What does MPCI do?
MPCI produces the compost within which mushrooms are grown off-site. Compost provides the nutrients needed for mushrooms to grow.
Because the compost provides all of the food for the mushrooms to grow, it is important that the mushroom substrate meet very specific requirements. Mushroom substrate is produced through a scientific formulation of various materials consisting mainly of wheat straw, manure and gypsum.
At MPC we convert these main ingredients into mushroom substrate through a very specific process, which, at times, causes distinct odours. We are committed to working with the community to mitigate and reduce these odours to normal farm practice standards controlled through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
